Tribals Protest Police Action

RAYAGADA: More than 200 Dongria Kondhs under the banner of Niyamgiri Suraksha Samiti (NSS) on Sunday locked Munikhol gram panchayat office in Muniguda block protesting police action against them. They submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik through Muniguda BDO Rajib Behera.

In the memorandum, they alleged that the district police and CRPF jawans are torturing innocent tribals in the name of Maoists at Niyamgiri. “When we are organising any developmental meeting in the hill area, the security forces are attacking us suspecting us to be Maoist supporters,” they alleged.

They demanded that the district administration should intervene in the matter. They also demanded inclusion of all Dongria Kondhs of the district under National Food Security Act (NFSA).

Tribal leaders Dadhi Pusika, Dasu Kadraka, Sashi Kadraka, Subash Kulesika and members of NSS were present.
