Three Including Woman Held on Dacoity Charge

BHUBANESWAR: The Crime Prevention and Detection Squad of Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested three persons including a woman in two separate incidents of dacoity and attempted dacoity on Saturday.

The arrested persons belong to Hissar district of Haryana and had incriminating materials like hand cutters, two handmade bombs, match boxes, chili powder, gun powder and iron rods. RPF have seized these items apart from cash of `10,940 from the woman.

On a tip off, police swooped down on the gang while it was planning to loot passengers under the railway over-bridge near Cuttack station. RPF nabbed two of the seven dacoits and the others managed to flee.

In another incident on Friday, RPF arrested a woman who had snatched the purse of a passenger, Sandhyarani Mohapatra, from Puri-New Delhi Neelachal Express at Cuttack station.

Mohapatra, a resident of Madhuban in Baripada, had boarded the rear compartment of the train from Cuttack station to go to Balasore. Taking opportunity of heavy rush, the accused snatched her purse and fled.

“On interrogation, the accused confessed to the charges and the case has been handed over to GRP, Cuttack for further action,” an East Coast Railway official said.
