RAYAGADA: Aahaar, the cheap meal scheme of the State Government, will be launched at Rayagada and Gunupur from March 5 on the occasion of Panchayati Raj Divas.
A decision in this regard was taken by Collector Jagannath Mohanty, who is the president of District Aahaar Society (DAS), at a meeting held here on Wednesday.
The Collector said the scheme will provide food to around 1,000 people in Rayagada Municipality and 500 in Gunupur NAC daily.
The State Government has already sanctioned Rs 2.2 crore for implementation of the scheme. Of it, Rs 45 lakh each has been released for construction of infrastructure facilities which are now under construction at Rayagada and Gunupur. Similarly, Rs 70 lakh has been earmarked for implementation of the scheme for one year, said Mohanty.
A Hyderabad-based NGO, MANN Trust, has been entrusted to provide the five-rupee meal by the district administration. Each meal would cost Rs 25 and the State Government will contribute Rs 15. Food will be offered for six days in a week except on Sunday.
The Collector has appealed to the local industries to contribute for the purpose.
