Cops Play Cupid, Help Lovers Tie Knot

SALEPUR: It is a tell tale of a boy and a girl who, it appears, were inspired by Laila-Majnu or the likes.

Two young hearts - Nilu Behera (28), a mason, and Pravati Barik (20), - deeply in love with each other, had to seek police help to tie the knot as their respective families opposed their marriage.

They exchanged garlands at Trinath temple on the premises of Tangi police station in the presence of police officials and some locals.

Nilu of Guhalidiha in Kanheipur gram panchayat and Pravati of Adampur village were in love for the last three years. They had eloped on Thursday night after their families opposed their marriage.

On Friday, Pravati’s father Dhabaleswar Barik filed an FIR in Tangi police station alleging that his daughter was kidnapped by Nilu, said Smruti Ranjan Kar, IIC, Tangi police station.

Meanwhile, the lovers surrendered at Tangi police station on Saturday seeking the help of the police to get married.

On learning that the two lovers are adults and their marriage was opposed by their respective families, police helped them tie the knot.
