Cops Recover 2 Skeletons from Kusukila Pits

ANGUL: Angul police on Monday recovered the skeletons of two persons from two pits near Kusukila village, three days after the accused Jashketan Rout of the village was arrested for killing two brothers.

Police said the skeletons are that of Abala Garnaik and her nephew Kumud Sahu, who were missing from Kukurpeta village for eight months.

Rout, who was arrested on February 11 on charges of killing two brothers Jogeswar and Hiranakhya Sahu earlier this month, revealed that he had killed two more persons, Abala and Kumud, in a similar manner and dumped their bodies in pits. Rout is in police custody for the last three days.

As per information provided by Rout, police, along with a scientific team, on Monday went to Kusukila village near here and dug up two spots.

“After digging for about eight feet on Saraswati Sishu Mandir premises near the village, we found skeletons at two spots,” said Angul Sub- Divisional Police Officer Rabindra Nath Deo.

Abala and Kumud were residents of Kukurpeta village under Chhendipada police limits and on the fateful day, they had gone to collect the loan amount which Abala had given to Rout. “Further investigation is on to stitch up the events,” the SDPO said.
