Honour Killing Whiff in Murder

JAIPUR: In an alleged case of honour killing, a 15-year-old girl was strangulated to death by her father in Laxmi Narayanpur village under Binjharpur police limits.

Though the incident occurred on Sunday night, it came to light after a woman of the same village reported the matter to the local police on Tuesday night. Binjharpur Police arrested the accused Nakula Jena (45) on Wednesday and he has confessed to the crime.

Jena strangulated his daughter to death while she was asleep. After cremating the body in the night, Jena and his family members threw the charred remains into a river on Monday morning.

Police said Jena’s 15-year-old daughter Ranu was a Class X student of the local high school. She had an affair with a married man of the village, which was vehemently opposed by her family. On Sunday, Jena had seen her taking to the man over mobile phone.

During interrogation, he admitted to have strangulated the girl. Police visited the spot where the girl’s body was cremated.

Jena was forwarded to court which remanded him in judicial custody. Further investigation is on.
