Noted Odia Vocalist Mishra Passes away

BHUBANESWAR: Eminent singer Bhubaneswari Mishra passed away following cardiac arrest at New Delhi on Friday. She was 67.

Mishra was an established Odia vocalist who rendered her voice to many film songs. Some of her popular songs are ‘Tiki Mora Naa Ti’ of Krushna Sudama, ‘Itikili Mitikili Phutigala Kaincha’ of ‘Sakshi Gopinath’ and ‘Jhumi Jhumi Jauchi’ of ‘Kaberi’.

For her contribution to Odia music, she was felicitated with the State Film Award for Best Singer (Female) for two consecutive years in 1979 and 1980 for the movies ‘Srikrushna Rasalila’ and ‘Jay Ma Mangala’ respectively.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik condoled the death of Mishra. Describing her as a very talented artiste, he said her death is a great loss to the field of music and culture. Members of Odia film fraternity also condoled her death.
