Vig Arrests Official for Taking Bribe

BHUBANESWAR: An official of the State Government was arrested by Koraput Vigilance Division in a bribery case on Friday.

The official, Bhabagrahi Meher, is posted as the Executive Officer of Ranamal gram panchayat of Jayapatna in Kalahandi district.

Meher, Vigilance sources said, had demanded `2000 from one Jhanjha Chatria of Matualguda to process the final bill for the latter’s house under Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana. Chatria approached the Vigilance which laid a trap and arrested Meher while he was receiving the money. He was booked under Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act and forwarded to a local court.

In another development, Balasore Vigilance Division arrested a State Government staff for accepting a bribe of `1500 for processing a land mutation. The accused, Kamalabala Mohanty, is employed as a senior clerk in the office of Tehsildar of Jaleswar in Balasore district.

One Nimain Charan Dutta of Tarajipa village at Raibania in Balasore district tipped the Vigilance sleuths about the demand of Mohanty. The senior clerk was caught red-handed while accepting the illegal gratification.
