Devotees Assaulted in Puri

PURI: A squadron leader of the Indian Air Force and his family were roughed up Jagannath Temple Police (JTP) personnel Sudarshan Sahoo on the temple premises here on Monday.

In his complaint lodged at Lion's Gate police station, Squadron leader Abhijit Guha stated that 13 members of the family were inside the temple at about 9 am for a darshan of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra when Sahoo was regulating the crowd with a 'basing patti' (a paper roll). When he hit Guha with the roll, it rebounded and hit his six-month-old child who was in his wife's arms.

When the couple protested, they were allegedly manhandled by the JTP and a scuffle ensued. Sahoo allegedly attacked Abhijit and his father in-law and misbehaved his wife, Natasha.

Sahoo too lodged a complaint alleging that he was attacked while regulating devotees inside the temple. Police registered both the complaints and investigating into the incident.
