Irregularities in Ration Card Protested

Residents of Salanga gram panchayat staged a dharna in front of the block office on Tuesday alleging irregularities in preparation of ration cards. The strike was called off after BDO Rajib Lochan Singh and Additional Tehsildar Ajaya Mohanty assured to look into their demands within 15 days.

2 Youths Arrested

Two youths with criminal antecedents were arrested on charges of assaulting a couple, an auto driver and a melody party at Tulasipur Bazaar on Tuesday. They looted `1,200 cash, ATM card and mobile phone from auto driver Santosh Sahoo of Kajipatana village. In another incident, Mamuni Nayak and her husband Ranjan were attacked by the youths when they were returning home on a two-wheeler. A melody party was also attacked by them. Bijaya Chhatoi of Nayahat and Sahadev Sahoo of Ratanpur village were nabbed by locals and handed over to police.

Arrested on Molestation Charge

Nischintakoili police on Tuesday arrested one Sukant Parida (45) of Ramachandrapur in Kentalo gram panchayat on charges of molesting a 48-year-old woman. Two FIRs were filed by the victim and accused.

Suicide Attempt

A 23-year-old woman of Bramhagada in Chapada gram panchayat attempted suicide on Monday night by setting herself on fire. Sources said Sarojini Jena set herself ablaze after dousing herself with kerosene after a family dispute. She sustained 60 per cent burn injuries and has been admitted to SCB Medical, Cuttack. Her condition is stated to be critical.
