College Teachers Warn of Exam Boycott

BHUBANESWAR: Hundreds of teachers of 488-category block grant colleges of Odisha have threatened to boycott the ensuing Plus Two and Plus Three examinations and evaluation of answer sheets if the State Government does not fulfil their demands.

The teachers, who have been protesting on Mahatma Gandhi Marg for over two weeks, took out a rally from Station Square and marched towards Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s residence before being stopped midway by police. They then went on to stage a dharna.

The agitating teachers and staff have been protesting under the banner of All Odisha 662 Non-Government Lecturers’ and Employees’ Association (AONGLEA).

The teachers said the inter-Ministerial committee meeting chaired by Finance Minister Pradip Amat on February 15 could not find a solution to their demand for full grant-in-aid. Another meeting will be held on Thursday and the teachers are hopeful of a result, general secretary of the teachers’ body Atal Bihari Bal said.

Currently, there are about 15,000 teachers and employees in the 662 and 488 category aided colleges getting block grant.
