Highway Looter Arrested in Odisha

SALEPUR: Tangi police on Thursday arrested Shyama Sundar Kar alias Kuna (26), a highway robber of Sana Kesharpur, and recovered gold ornaments, cash and mobile phone from his possession.  He had looted these items from an elderly woman of  Bhawanipatana. Police sources said  the incident took place when Rashmi Rekha Sahu and her husband Kailash Sahu  were returning from a picnic in a bus on January 31 night. While all others had gone out for dinner in a roadside hotel, Rashmi Rekha was sitting alone inside the bus. Taking the advantage of the situation, Kuna snatched the valuables from the woman.

An FIR was filed in Tangi police station. All the stolen items, including cash, have been recovered from the accused,  said Smruti Ranjan Kar, IIC, Tangi police station.   

Encroached Land Cleared

Tangi-Choudwar Tehsildar Saroj Kanta Mohanty on Thursday conducted a demolition drive to clear forest land encroached by SR Breweries at Barapada village in Tangi-Choudwar block. The administration pulled down the boundary wall of SR Breweries and cleared  encroachment of about 3.5 acres of forest land.
