BHUBANESWAR: Director General of Police (DGP) KB Singh on Tuesday said the State Police may probe into the Rs 22 lakh donation that went from Cuttack to Swadheen Bharat Vidhik Satyagrah, the outfit behind the bloody violence in Mathura which claimed 29 lives.

While UP Police has recovered a diary in which donations from various parts of the country to the sect has been mentioned, the DGP told a private TV channel that State Police is waiting for a complete report from the UP Police on the matter.

However, police sources said there is nothing unusual about the donation since Ram Vriksh Yadav, head of the sect, was one of the major followers of Baba Jai Guru Dev who has an ashram in Mathura. Baba’s assets are pegged at a whopping Rs 12,000 crore.

“It received huge donations from different places and Yadav maintained a register of the collection. The Rs 22 lakh from Cuttack is one of them,” sources said adding, the suspicion that Left Wing ultras or their support groups could be behind the donation is unfounded, at least as of now.

“We are in touch with UP Police about the developments. Investigation may be taken up, if necessary,” the sources added.

Yadav has been declared dead by Mathura Police. The DGP, however, was not available for comment.
