193 Jumbos Perish in Three Years

BHUBANESWAR: As many as 193 elephants died in the last three years in the State.

In a written reply to a question from Prakash Chandra Behera (Cong) in the Assembly, Forest and Environment Minister Bikram Arukha said 70 elephants died in 2013-14, 55 in 2014-15 and 68 in 2015-16. He said 47 elephants died due to various diseases while 45 died due to unknown reasons.

As many as 41 elephants died due to poaching, poisoning, deliberate electrocution and accidental electrocution, he added.
