ANGUL: Tension ran high at Karadasingh village under Purunagarh range in Angul division following the death of Pradipta Gochhayat (50) in elephant attack on Tuesday night.

The incident occurred when Pradipta had gone to attend nature’s call and was attacked by the jumbo.

Irate locals staged a road blockade at Karatpata-Angul road on Wednesday protesting the callous attitude of forest officials towards the recurrent elephant attacks in the locality. Traffic was disrupted for five hours.

The agitators were demanding `10 lakh compensation for the bereaved family and measures to prevent such incidents in future. The agitation was cleared after assurance from forest officials of necessary actions. Further, `10,000 was released to the kin of the deceased by the officials towards final rites.  Angul DFO did not respond to phone calls.
