BHUBANESWAR: Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan today dared the Naveen Patnaik government to debate his government's achievements during the last 17 years.
Reacting sharply to ruling BJD's contrarian disposition on the Mahanadi and Polavaram issues, Pradhan said instead of taking those issues to the people during its month-long "Jan Sampark Padayatra", the
party should give accounts of its achievements in resolving basic problems of the people.
"The state government should come out with its performance record on health services, education, irrigation, electricity, drinking water supply if the Chief Minister is so confident about his popularity," Pradhan told reporters here after his arrival fron New Delhi.
The state government should explain the people why incidents like Dana Majhi carrying body of his dead wife and malnutrition deaths at Nagada villages occurred and the reason for the huge vacancy of
teachers in school and colleges.
Dubbing the state government as a corrupt and inefficient, the Union Minister said the people of the state are thoroughly disillusioned and unhappy with the ruling party and their leaders.
"It is a deliberate attempt by the state government to keep the inter-state disputes alive to divert the attention of the people from issues  which it had failed to resolve due to its gross inefficiency," he remarked.
Though the state government moved a motion on Mahanadi issue in the monsoon session of the Assembly, it failed to pass a resolution despite the fact that the opposition parties were in favour of such a
resolution, he said.
Pradhan criticised the state government for the delay in the inclusion of those eligible families kept out of the ambit of the National Food Security Act (NFSA).
The union minister was given a rousing reception by different women organizations for the inclusion of twin city of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar under city gas distribution network.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recently approved the simultaneous development of city gas distribution (CGD) networks in Bhubaneswar and
Cuttack along with other five cities.
