CUTTACK: Unidentified miscreants stole Rs 16 lakh from an ATM of the State Bank of India at Gandarpur in Cuttack, police said Monday.

According to a written complaint lodged with the Chauliaganj police, the miscreants disconnected the CCTV fixed above the teller machine before decamping with the cash last night.

The ATM is located barely 200 m from the Chauliaganj police station but the policemen had no clue to the incident. There was no security guard at the ATM.

Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora, ACP Trinath Mishra and the inspector-in-charge of Chauliaganj Ajay Kumar Das visited the spot with a forensic team and a dog squad.

A case has been registered following a complaint lodged by the owner of the house had rented it to the bank. Police said the miscreants are suspected to have used a gas cutter to break into the cash storage chamber.
