PHULBANI : A Sikhya Sahayak, Pratap Kumar Sahu of Balanda village under Nuagaon police limits in Nayagarh district, was sentenced to nine years of rigorous imprisonment for sexual exploitation of girls of a sevashram school.
The Special Judge-cum-District Judge of Phulbani Janab Mohammad Ajmal on Friday also imposed a fine of `30,000. In default of payment, Sahu will have to undergo another one year in prison.
Three years back, adolescent girl students of Mundagaon Sevashram school in Chakapada block informed the headmistress about sexual exploitation by Sahu.
The headmistress informed Welfare Extension Officer of Chakapada Jagat Jiban Bagarti, who inquired into the matter and found the allegation to be true. He lodged an FIR against the accused teacher on February 28, 2013 at Chakapada police station. Police arrested the accused and forwarded him to court.
