Pattamundai under thick security net

KENDRAPARA:Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC were clamped in Pattamundai town of Kendrapara on Tuesday after a group of people tried to organise a ‘Kalash’ yatra without obtaining permission from the local administration.

Any kind of procession, including the Bakrid procession, was not allowed. Kendrapara Collector Debraj Senapati appealed to members of both the communities to maintain peace. Police force has been deployed to avert untoward situation. Trouble started on Monday evening when some people belonging to minority community opposed playing of loud music during the Lord Ganesh and Khudurukani immersion processions near a mosque in Pattamundai. They said the instruments, music and dance were creating ‘disturbance’ in the area and insisted that the procession be diverted.

Around 1,200 locals, including many women, gheraoed the police station in Pattamundai demanding action against the persons who prevented them from using loudspeakers in front of a mosque.  They also blocked Pattamundai-Rajnagar road at Pattamundai by burning tyres as a result of which, vehicular traffic was affected for four hours. Officers of the district administration rushed to the spot and intervened.

Later, police personnel were engaged to conduct the immersion.
