PARALAKHEMUNDI : Traffic between Berhampur and Paralakhemundi via Ramgiri was disrupted on Friday following a road blockade at Lanjipadar village. Locals blocked the road demanding compensation to the family of an under-trial prisoner (UTP), who died on September 10.

Sana Sabar (30) was arrested for allegedly transporting illicit liquor on September 7.

Later on the day, he complained of uneasiness and was admitted to Paralakhemundi hospital. Sana was shifted to SCB, Cuttack after his condition deteriorated.

However, while undergoing treatment, he succumbed on September 10.

After autopsy, the jail officials handed over the body to his family members with `5,000 cash for cremation.

Not satisfied with the assistance, family members of Sana had urged Gajapati Collector Sudhansu Mohan Samal to provide a house under IAY, cash assistance under CM’s relief fund and widow pension. As the demands were not met, the residents of Lanjipadar resorted to the road blockade.

The stir was withdrawn following assurance by Raigada BDO Biswajit Burman to consider their demands.
