KENDRAPARA: Umesh Sahoo, the secretary of a private residential college in Kendrapara town, was arrested on Saturday on charges of misappropriating money of the students. Nearly 60 students filed an FIR in Kendrapara Sadar police station on Friday alleging that Umesh refused to refund their money after the residential college was closed due to non-payment of house rent. Umesh also abused them and didn’t release the transfer certificate to the students. “Acting on the FIR, we have arrested Umesh Sahoo under sections 420 (cheating), 294 (using obscene language) and 506 (criminal intimation). Police are investigating the case,” said Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Kendrapara Purnachandra Pradhan. Umesh was remanded in judicial custody after his bail plea was rejected by the Court of Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM).
