17-year-old student drown in Daya river

BHUBANESHWAR: A 17-year-old boy drowned in Daya river near Kesura sand quarry on city outskirts on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Rajendra Behera, a resident of Forest Park area here. He was a student of Plus-II Science at a college in the City.

Sources said, Rajendra and his three friends had gone to the riverside for a feast. He was caught in a high current and swept away at around 2 pm.

Locals informed Balianta Fire Station from where a search team was dispatched for rescue operation. However the body could not be traced for about two hours following which a diver with breathing apparatus was rushed to the spot from Kalpana Fire station.

Rajendra’s body was fished out after an effort which lasted for half-an hour. Balianta police have registered a case of unnatural death and sent the body for autopsy.
