Cops withdraw stir after Govt incentive

BHUBANESWAR: The umbrella body of police constables, sepoys and havildars, which had launched a black badge protest on Wednesday, withdrew it indefinitely after the State Government announced an incentive for them.

The Home Department issued a notification stating that constables, sepoys, lance naiks and havildars and their equivalent rank holders would be entitled to a month’s additional salary which will be inclusive of the grade pay but not dearness allowance. The ceiling for the salary will be `20,000.

Earlier, the federation had started the black badge protest across the State in support of their six-point charter of demands. They also met Home Secretary Asit Tripathy in this connection.

After the notification, the federation said the Government has met three of their demands due to which they have decided to suspend the agitation for an indefinite period.A day earlier, the State Government had announced a special incentive for constables and sepoys recruited on contract basis and deployed with SOG, SIW, DVF besides those serving in Maoist-affected districts.
