BERHAMPUR: Pila Baliarsingh of Budaguda village was arrested by Baliguda police in Kandhamal district on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in the rape and murder of a woman on Monday.
The victim had left for her husband’s house from her father’s house at Budaguda in the evening, but never reached there. Her family members could not know her whereabouts till her body was found near Mahabilu ghat on Tuesday.
During investigation, locals informed police that Baliarsingh was seen suspiciously moving near the spot. He was arrested and during investigation, the accused confessed to the crime. He informed police that while the woman was returning alone, he forcibly dragged her to a forest nearby and raped her. To mislead the police on her identity, he smashed her faced with a stone. Prior to that, the criminal took away all the ornaments that she was wearing. He was forwarded to court which remanded him in judicial custody.
