Man trampled to death in Jharsuguda

JHARSUGUDA: A 62-year-old man, identified as Prakash Naik, was killed by an elephant in Kulihamal village under Kulabira forest range on Sunday.

Naik had gone to the forest with his wife Tapaswini to pluck herbs in the morning when an elephant attacked them. While Tapaswini managed to escape, Naik died on the spot.

Forest officials rushed to the spot and sent the body to Jharsuguda DHH for postmortem.

Divisional Forest Officer Arjun Behera said Rs 5,000 has been given to the victim’s wife as compensation and Rs 2.95 lakh would be released to her after completion of all formalities.

Earlier this year, a mother-child duo of Kadobahal village was trampled to death by an elephant. Similarly, a tribal woman, Kenda Ping, of Duleshara village was killed by an elephant on February 5.
