Undeclared powercuts irk residents

DHENKANAL: Residents of Dhenkanal town have been facing the brunt of undeclared and frequent powercuts for the last five days. While Cesu authorities attribute the crisis to renovation work ahead of Laxmi Puja, resentment is brewing among the people over the issue.

Ahead of Laxmi Puja, the district administration had organised a preparatory meeting in presence of Collector, Cesu authorities and senior district-level officers on September 21. It was decided that before undertaking electricity renovation works, public announcement for power cuts will be made by Cesu. But later, they resorted to unscheduled powercuts violating the decision of the meeting, locals alleged.

They demanded replacement of unsafe electric poles and raising the height of hanging live wires before the Puja. Though the SP, Basant Kumar Panigrahi, had asked Cesu officials to identify unsafe poles and hanging wires within two days, Cesu officials are yet to act.
