ANGUL: An Injured   elephant calf was brought to a village near Labangi under Satkosia Wildlife sanctuary by forest officials for treatment on Monday. The calf was injured after it was reportedly attacked by a tusker in its herd while drinking water from Bhurbhura nullah on Sunday night.
 Forest officials said the calf is not able to stand or walk and two veterinarians are attending to it. The calf might require three or four more days to recover.

Villagers of Jukub, 45 km from here, had spotted the injured calf in Satkosia forest near a nullah. They informed the forest officials, who rescued the animal. DFO, SMT Rahman said the calf has been administered saline , glucose drips and medicines. Although the calf’s body was examined, no external injury was spotted. The DFO added that the calf has suffered internal injuries, including a ligament injury, and is unable to stand.  The calf has been shifted to a village near Labangi for treatment. It will be released into the wild once it recovers.
