BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has demanded release of postage stamp on ‘Paika Rebellion’ to commemorate its 200 years of completion, which the State Government is celebrating in a grand manner.

In a letter to Union Minister for Communications Manoj Sinha on Monday, the Chief Minister has requested him to initiate necessary steps for early release of the commemorative postage stamp. “As you may be aware, Government of Odisha is celebrating the bi-centenary of ‘Paika Rebellion’ in a grand manner, befitting its rightful place in the history of India’s freedom struggle,” he said.

The Chief Minister said the State Government has given a proposal to the Centre to release a commemorative postage stamp in memory of the historic revolt on the occasion of its bi-centenary.
“The proposed stamp design along with the write ups in English and Hindi have already been forwarded to the Chief Post Master General, Odisha circle, Bhubaneswar by Culture Department in a letter on June 24,” he said. Besides, the Chief Secretary had also written a letter to the department of posts on September 6 for release of the stamp.
