Polling officer dies in accident

A polling officer was killed and another was seriously injured in an accident while they were going to Kujang to attend election training programme on Monday.

JAGATSINGHPUR: A polling officer was killed and another was seriously injured in an accident while they were going to Kujang to attend election training programme on Monday.
 Sources said Achuytnanda Swain (31) of Belapokhari under Jagatsinghpur police limits and a polling officer Pradip Behera were going to Kujang block office to attend the election training programme on a two-wheeler when a speeding truck rammed into them at Kothiasahi on Cuttack-Paradip State Highway killing Swain on the spot and seriously injuring Behera.

After the incident, locals rushed to the spot and shifted the two to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. Swain was declared brought dead by the doctors. Collector Yamini Sarangi met the bereaved family. She said steps will be taken to provide insurance to victim’s family and a job to one of the  family members on rehabilitation ground.

Swain was working as junior assistant at Batamangla Vidyapeetha of Gopalpur under Tirtol block while Behera is working as junior assistant at Mulisingh High School under same block.
The district administration conducted election training programme in Erasama, Kujang and Biridi blocks for presiding and polling officers in which 484 officers participated in Erasama, 488 in Kujang and 196 in Biridi block.
