Dreaded criminal held after encounter

A dreaded criminal, Jogi Gouda, was arrested by Polasara police after an encounter at Marada Chowk under Polasara block on Thursday.

BERHAMPUR: A dreaded criminal, Jogi Gouda, was arrested by Polasara police after an encounter at Marada Chowk under Polasara block on Thursday. Jogi sustained bullet injuries on his left leg and was admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.

According to reports, acting on a tip-off that Gouda would be crossing the area, a team of Polasara police laid in wait for him at Marda Square at around 1.30 am on Wednesday. On spotting the police, Gouda opened fire with an intention to flee from the spot but police retaliated and a bullet hit him below the left knee. Police overpowered him and seized a mauser with three rounds of live ammunition and motorcycle.

Purusottompur SDPO, Dilip Dash said, Gouda was involved in more than 15 cases of dacoity, robbery, attempt to murder, firing and extortion. He was wanted by Ganjam, Khurda and Bhubaneswar police. The SDPO said no police person was injured in the exchange of fire. Gouda, a resident of Arjunapalli village in Kabisuryanagar block of the district, had set up a gang of anti-socials in Dumuduma and Salia Sahi in Bhubaneswar to commit criminal activities and create terror in several areas in an organised way.
