Booth capturing alleged, repoll sought in three districts

State Election Commission has directed Rayagada district administration as well as block officials of Kolnara block to conduct re-polling for sarpanch candidates of two wards of Dunduli panchayat.

RAYAGADA: The State Election Commission (SEC) has directed Rayagada district administration as well as block officials of Kolnara block to conduct re-polling for sarpanch candidates of Ward no 10 and 11 of Dunduli panchayat on February 22.

The election was held in the fourth phase. Meanwhile, repolling was held at Radandga of Kurli panchayat in Bissamcuttack block here on Monday following an incident of booth capturing during the second phase. Out of 323 voters 276 exercised their franchise.

BJP-backed candidates demand repoll

Jajpur: Three BJP sponsored candidates along with their supporters of Biripata sarpanch in Jajpur district are on a mass dharna before the collectorate demanding repolling in at least two booths. According to sources, Laxmidhar Malik who contested for the post of Sarpanch, Dusasan Malik for Samiti member from Biripata GP and Mamina Malik from Zone no 7 under Dasarathapur block in the district are on a dharna along with their supporters demanding repolling at booths 16 and 17 of Biripata GP alleging rigging and booth capturing on Sunday.

“We want repolling at booths 16 and 17 following booth capturing and rigging by the activists of BJD-backed sarpanch candidate of the panchayat,” said Amiya K Malik, BJP leader. 
Ghost votes cast

Athagarh: Over 100 voters of Tarading GP under the block met Athagarh Sub-Collector Harish Chandra Nayak on Monday alleging that several ghost votes in the name of missing and dead persons of the GP have been cast by ruling party workers in the election held on Sunday.

They demanded an inquiry and repoll in the GP. Similarly, over 100 of voters of Koleswar GP under Badamba block gheraoed the BDO Sibabrata Ghosh and lodged a complaint about irregularities in booths 4,5,6 and 7 of the GP.
