BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday asked officials to take steps to ensure that people do not face any drinking water problem during summer.

The CM, who reviewed arrangements made for drinking water availability in summer, said all related maintenance work should be completed by March 31. He asked Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Departments to coordinate and prepare an action plan for drinking water availability in rural areas.

It was decided that an extension officer will be given charge of drinking water in every panchayat. The extension officers will regularly brief BDOs about the situation. Solar power will be utilised in Integrated Action Plan blocks for drinking water availability.

The Urban Development Department has also prepared a standard operating procedure for drinking water supply in urban areas.
