A murder and robbery at knife point in Bhubaneshwar

Criminals had a field day in Bhubaneshwar on Thursday when a Jana Seva Kendra manager was shot at in Bomikhal area during the busy hours of the evening.

BHUBANESWAR: Criminals had a field day in the State capital on Thursday when a Jana Seva Kendra manager was shot at in Bomikhal area of the City during the busy hours of the evening.

Hours earlier, a cameraman with the I and PR Department of the State Government was robbed at knife point by miscreants near Station Square.

Eyewitnesses said, the Jana Seva Kendra manager, Manoranjan Behera, was at the service centre located near the Durga Mandap when three youths arrived at about 8.30 pm. They had a fight with Behera after which one of them took out a gun and fired at the former.

The bullet hit Behera in the stomach. He was rushed to Apollo Hospital. His condition is stated to be critical. The criminals, however, left behind the gun at the spot before fleeing. Laxmi Sagar Police which reached the place seized the gun.

Sources said, police have identified the three to be locals of the area whereas Behera had acquaintance with them. The trio apparently had a past history with Behera. A team is out to nab the three.

During wee hours of the day, Ganesh Hembram, the I and PR Department’s video cameraman who is assigned to cover functions of the Chief Minister, was robbed by miscreants at Station Square.

Hembram was waiting for a bus when three miscreants attacked him with a knife. They took his mobile phone, some cash and valuables and fled. The place where he was attacked was metres away from the police assistance booth but nobody came to his help. No one has been arrested.
