BHUBANESWAR: Cupertino’s first Indian-American Mayor, Savita Vaidhyanathan, is on a five-day tour to the State starting Friday. A city in California, Cupertino is the corporate headquarters of Apple Inc., and sister city of Bhubaneswar. The Cupertino-Bhubaneswar sister city initative was formed in November 2012 to enhance multi-cultural interaction and understanding through art, culture and education exchanges between the two Cities.
Vaidhyanathan and Ananta Narayan Jena, Mayor of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) will hold a meeting on October 23 to discuss further strengthening of the ties between the two cities. Developmental works undertaken by BMC, Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited will be discussed. Vaidhyanathan will also meet Electronics and Information Technology Minister Chandra Sarathi Behera at the Secretariat on October 23.
Apart from the Capital, the Cupertino Mayor will also visit Berhampur, Puri, Konark and Gopalpur before emplaning on October 26.The community-based non-profit organisation aims to engage individuals and institutions for making both the Cities sustainable along with organising visits of Cupertino officials to the State Capital.CBSCI also conducts a cultural and arts exchange programmes between the two cities through a fundraiser event in the United States.
