SAMBALPUR: Close on the heels of killing of two Maoist cadres in neighbouring Bargarh district, police on Thursday recovered a huge cache of ammunition and explosives hidden by the Red rebels from Dangteka Reserve Forest within Kisinda police limits here.

Police recovered two rusted metallic portion of .303 rifle, sixtytwo .9 mm ball ammunition, thirty .303 ball ammunition with six magazine catches, 136 .303 ball ammunition, 256 7.62 mm SLR ball ammunition, a live hand grenade, live sealed tiffin bomb, a tiffin bomb without detonator, fourteen  .303 magazine catches and one canvas ammunition pouch from the spot during the search operation. The ammunition and explosives were seized in the presence of witnesses.

Sambalpur SP Sanjeev Arora said on a tip off, police personnel along with District Voluntary Force (DVF) staff of the district and Rourkela launched a search operation at the reserve forest on Wednesday. During the search, police recovered the arms, ammunition and explosives from the forest.

The arms and ammunition were hidden by hardcore Maoists Kunu alias Ajay Dehury of Tamparsingha in the district, Badal alias Shankar Majhi of Jadagola in Deogarh, Anmol alias Lalchand Hembrum of Bansi village in Bokaro district of Jharkhand and others with an intention to wage war against the State and cause serious injuries to life and property, Arora said.

A case has been registered under Sections 121 (A), 122 and 34 IPC, Section 25 of Arms Act, Section 4 of Explosive Substances Act, 1908, Section 10 (b)/13 (2) Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 on the basis of the complaint of Kisinda IIC Basant Kumar Dalai.Combing operation is on in Dangteka Reserve Forest area, the SP added.
