

BARIPADA: A 45-year-old woman was killed and her husband suffered grievous injuries after a dumper truck hit their motorcycle near Balasore Golei here on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Ratnaprava Sarangi of Station Bazaar area in Baripada town of Mayurbhanj district. Her husband, Siddheswar Mishra (56), has been admitted to Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital (MCH) and his condition is stated to be critical.
The mishap took place at around 4.30 pm. Sources said the couple was travelling home when the truck rammed into their two-wheeler near a fuel station, a few metres from Balasore Golei. Ratnaprava and her husband were thrown off the bike and sustained critical injuries.
While locals detained the truck following the mishap, the couple was rushed to the MCH where doctors declared the woman dead. Siddheswar was admitted to the hospital.
Baripada Town police seized the dumper and detained its driver. Further investigation is underway.
