CHENNAI/THOOTHUKUDI: Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, has offered R Thilagavathi (17), of Subbiah Vidyalayam Girls Higher Secondary School, who topped the State in Nursing this year, a free seat in its nursing college.
Responding to Friday’s Express report on Thilagavathi’s poor family background and her need for financial assistance to pursue higher studies, Apollo Hospitals managing director Preetha Reddy said the college would take care of her tuition fees for the four-year course as well as hostel accommodation.
Daughter of a farmer in Thirumalayapuram village in Thoothukudi district, Thilagavathi has scored 196 marks out of 200 in the Class XII State Board Examination.
The Tirunelveli office of Express has received calls from philanthropists offering to help the girl pursue her ambition to be a nurse.
Ranjit Shah of Vrindavan Institute of Nursing Education, Goa, called to say that he would foot the bill for her education. P K Duraisamy, managing director of Anamalais Toyota of the ARC Group in Coimbatore, also offered assistance to Thilagavathi.
