TIRUNELVELI: Tirunelveli Judicial Magistrate Court-II imposed a 2-year Rigorous Imprisonment sentence on former DMK MLA Ravishankar in the case related to misappropriation of funds from Vilathikulam Primary Agriculture Cooperative Bank.

According to the prosecution, Ravishankar was the president of the Vilathikulam Primary Agriculture Cooperative Bank for the period 1996-2001. In 1998 and 2000, he misappropriated  `18 lakh of the bank’s money. In this connection, Commercial Crime Investigation Wing, Thoothukudi, registered three cases against him under section 409 of the IPC.

The case was conducted at the Tirunelveli Judicial Magistrate Court-II.

Assistant public prosecutor S Thyagarajan appeared on the prosecution’s behalf. After hearing the case, Justice Robinson George sentenced Ravishankar to two years of rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of `10,000 in the ` 10-lakh misappropriation case.

The judge also awarded one-year rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of

` 5,000 in the `5-lakh misappropriation case. The sentences will run concurrently.  Justice George adjourned the judgment in the ` 3-lakh misappropriation case to December 14.
