Shortcomings have been noticed in the implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme by the Programme Evaluation Organisation of the Planning Commission.
There was lack of awareness among the rural population about their legal rights under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. Delay in payment of wages to workers and lack of project staff were other problem areas.
