CHENNAI: Giving effect to the announcement made in the last budget session, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Sunday extended the free bus pass scheme to students of government and governmentaided Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). Students of schools and colleges are already availing of this scheme.

The measure will benefit 21,500 ITI students, an official release here said. The free bus pass scheme was first launched by the DMK in 1990 for students up to the eighth standard in government schools.
