COIMBATORE: A conman who was posing as a Train Ticket Examiner (TTE) at the Coimbatore junction and collecting fine from passengers travelling without ticket was arrested by the railway police on Tuesday.

A few passengers of the Sabari Express grew suspicious over a man, clad in white dress, who asked for their tickets and complained to the railway policemen on patrol at the station.

Upon questioning him, the police found out that the man was E Thirupathi, an ex-convict who was recently released from Salem prison. They also found out that Thirupathi was not a railway staff and he himself had travelled without a ticket by the same train.

The police have booked the accused under Section 170 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) for impersonating a public servant and 506 IPC for criminal intimidation. He was produced before the Judicial Magistrate and remanded him to custody.
