CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Wednesday stayed the Chennai Corporation’s fresh notice asking Sriperumbudur MP TR Baalu to vacate his office premises at T Nagar and hand over the land to the civic body.

While hearing the case, Justice V Dhanapalan stayed the civic body’s new notice and posted the matter for disposal after two weeks.

In his affidavit, Baalu said when he was elected from the South Chennai constituency in 1996, the local body had allotted an office for him at T Nagar.

When he was re-elected as an MP from the Sriperumbudur in 2009, he was permitted to use the office in T Nagar by the civic body as a camp office.

Baalu submitted that the Commissioner of the Chennai Corporation is showing undue haste and hurry to evict him from the legally allotted camp office, which is being used for the public purpose of redressing the electorate’s grievances.

In their haste to evict him, whole Chennai Corporation machinery is illegally dispensing with all legal requirements which mandate the approval of the Corporation Council for such decisions, Baalu further submitted in his affidavit.
