‘Discuss statehood with Centre’

The Puducherry unit of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Friday urged Chief Minister N Rangasamy to pursue the issue of Statehood for the Union Territory with the Centre.

Puducherry DMK convener Dr M A S Subramanian asked the CM to lead a delegation of all-party leaders, Union Minister of State for PMO V Narayanasamy, Rajya Sabha member P Kannan, besides former Chief Ministers and legislators to the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister and take up the issue with them.Rangasamy should also meet Sonia Gandhi and M Karunanidhi and urge them to impress upon the Centre, he added.

“If the CM fails to achieve Statehood, people will think that his demand for Statehood is just a tactic to divert their attention,” he said.
