A farmer from Abhivirutheeswaram near Koradachery in Tiruvarur district committed suicide by hanging himself following a family dispute on Sunday.
The victim Sridhar (32) is survived by wife Nithya and a one-and-half year old baby girl. According to police sources, Sridhar was found to be upset for some time due a problem in the family, which drove him to suicide. The Koradachery police registered a case and was investigating the incident.
However, left parties in the area claimed that it was due to his anxiety over the fate of paddy crops and linked his suicide to the burning Cauvery water dispute between TN and Karnataka. A police personnel, on condition of anonymity, said “The suicide happened due to a family dispute. But, his relatives think that his family can get higher compensation, if his death is projected as a case of suicide due to lack of Cauvery water.”
