‘Relief to violence victims provided’

All relief has been provided as mandated under the Acts and rules to the victims of the group clash on November 7 this year, and steps to maintain law and order have been taken. The very fact that peace is prevailing in the area will show that proper steps have been taken, Dharmapuri Collector R Lilly stated in her counter-affidavit filed in the Madras High Court on Monday.

Since the district administration had done everything as per law and criminal cases filed had been transferred to the CB-CID, the question of transferring the same to the CBI for further investigation did not arise, the official said. The counter was filed in response to a public interest writ petition from advocate S Sengkodi of Thambu Chetty Street in Chennai, praying for a direction to the CBI to hold further probe.

In his counter, the local SP  submitted that seven cases had been registered by the Krishnapuram police and so far, 142 persons arrested in connection with the violent incidents.
