Alagiri calls Stalin’s men traitors

Calling Stalin loyalists traitors, Union Minister M K Alagiri asserted that his supremacy in southern districts cannot be challenged.

“Without us nothing can happen here. When we are here, who can win in this place,” asked Alagiri, indirectly referring to DMK Treasurer M K Stalin, who has extended his base to southern districts during the past months.

Though the sibling rivalry had been going on for months together in Madurai, Alagiri had maintained a low profile ever since police began chasing Dayanidhi, his son, in the illegal granite quarrying scam.

However on Monday, after the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court granted anticipatory bail to his son, Alagiri used the opportunity to hit out at his younger brother.“Misa Pandian and myself were close friends from the 1980s after I landed in Madurai to manage the party mouthpiece Murasoli. But many DMK functionaries, who rose to power and party positions with my help, have moved away from me after the regime change, ” said Alagiri while speaking at the marriage function of Maruthu Pandian, son of former Madurai deputy Mayor Misa Pandian.

“I have toiled for their victory, but after they got party positions, the traitors claimed that they got elevated with the help of their relatives,” Alagiri said. “I am leaving it to nature’s justice to punish them. I am not worried about them,” he said.

Stalin, with his close aides, had called upon Alagiri last month and offered moral support after police began chasing his son in the illegal quarrying case.
