Government college students stage protest demanding amenities

Students of Muthurangam Government Arts College on Monday staged a token protest on the institution premises demanding better amenities.

The protestors said the college lacked basic amenities from drinking water to desks and chairs. The students also said the college administration had recently sacked guest lecturers appointed under PTA to handle classes in the absence of regular teachers. “The guest lecturers were appointed three years ago to fill in for absent teaching staff. They were sacked on Thursday by the administration. Now, we have classes for only two or three hours. We want five hours of classes on all working days,” said a group of students.

Apart from this, the students demanded drinking water and toilet facilities. The students said the principal K Malathi had assured them that appropriate measures would be taken.
