A 62-year-old man and his daughter were killed when a speeding lorry hit their two-wheeler and mowed them down near Pallikonda on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Sambanthamurthy of Neteri Village, in Gudiyattam, and his daughter Kotteswari. Sambanthamurthy was taking Kotteswari to Kanthaneri village to visit his other daughter who resided there.
The accident took place around 8.50 am on National Highway-46 near Pallikonda when a speeding container lorry hit their vehicle and mowed them down, killing the duo on the spot. The bodies were taken to the Government Vellore Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.
The lorry driver abandoned his vehicle and fled. Police seized the vehicle and registered a case of rash and negligent driving against the driver.
