42 officials pass out of APCA

As many as 42 prison officials from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Nagaland received course completion certificates at the convocation of the Academy of Prisons and Correctional Administration (APCA) in Vellore on Tuesday.

The Vice-Chancellor of National Law School of India University, Bangalore, Prof R Venkata Rao handed over the certificates to the officials who underwent basic training of nine months and in-service training of three months at the academy.

As part of the course, the trainees went on study tours to North and South India to study about prison administration and best practices prevalent.

The trainees were subjected to orientation programmes on correctional social work at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, and were deputed to seminars, workshops and conferences organised by the Department of Criminology of the University of Madras.

The trainees were given training on human rights in prison management, personality development and were given a course on mental health of prisoners.
