Members of the Pensioner Joint Action Committee held a protest demanding pensions for the retired employees of the Government Transport Corporation near Anna Kalaiarangam in Vellore, on Wednesday.
The members also raised slogans demanding the cancellation of the new pension scheme, and to control the spread of the dengue. The members also demanded a ban on the rules in appointing candidates on compassionate ground.
Pensioners of various associations attached to different sectors such as Life Insurance Corporation of India, BSNL, Transport Corporation, Electricity Boards, schools and colleges participated in the protest.
